AI AR Prioritization: Working the Claims Most Likely to Pay

How AI ranks aged accounts receivable by likely recovery, balance and deadline so follow-up teams work the right claims first.

Short answerAI AR prioritization ranks unpaid claims by expected recovery (balance multiplied by the likelihood of payment) and by the time left before timely filing or appeal deadlines, so follow-up staff work the claims most likely to convert to cash first.

Most AR teams work claims oldest-first or by balance. Both miss something: the oldest claims may already be unrecoverable, and the largest balance may have little chance of payment.

Inputs a model uses

  • balance and payer
  • denial or status history on the claim
  • the payer's typical response to similar claims
  • days remaining to the timely filing or appeal limit
  • whether a fix is known (corrected claim, records request, authorization)

Turning scores into a work queue

What it changes

Teams spend calls on claims that convert. The weekly AR report shifts from "how many claims did we touch" to "how much did we collect, and what did we save from expiring".

Limits

Models learn from the past. A payer that suddenly starts denying a code will be under-predicted until the pattern shows up, so a person still reviews the queue and new denial trends.
